You might be a socialist if you think the state should tell manufacturers what kinds of light bulbs and what size toilets they may produce and sell.

You might be a socialist if you think the state should tell automotive manufacturers what fuels their vehicles must use and what mileage they must get.

You might be a socialist if you think the state should tell businesses how to design entrances to their buildings and how to arrange their parking lots.

You might be a socialist if you think the state should tell businesses who they can hire and how much they must pay them.

You might be a socialist if you think the state should tell us what medications we may use and require us to get its written permission to buy them.

You might be a socialist if you think the state should force taxpayers to pay for your medical care.

You might be a socialist if you think the state should force taxpayers to pay for your retirement.

You might be a socialist if you think the state should put a gun to my head and take my money to pay for your kids education.

There is nothing wrong with socialism. Socialism is a philosophy. Everyone has a right to their opinion. But in a free society, anyone who wishes to do so may practice communal living and socialist economics. Cults and communes do so openly and without fear of retribution. The same, however, cannot be said for those who wish to practice individualism and free market economics in a socialist state. That is forbidden.
